CHOOSING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER AND WHAT QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK THEM
You only have to do a quick search on Google to see how many photographers there are specializing in newborns now. So how do you decide who is the right photographer for you and your family.
I would suggest you start by making a short list of photographers whose work you love. Take into account the following things:
- Do you want a photographer to travel to you or would you feel happier going to your photographer, both options have benefits and it’s up to you to decide what works best for you?
- Do you love their images, and choice of colours, even the props they use, do the babies look comfortable.
Once you have your short list I would contact them and ask the following:
- Do they have availability around your due date and how flexible are they will due dates can they accommodate you if your baby is early or late. When would they be expecting you to book?
- Ask them what training and experience they have
- Ask to see client reviews; these can either be on google or facebook
- Most photographers are happy to organise a pre-booking consultation, so do ask if you can find out more about their service in this way – newborn photography is so hands-on, that it’s essential to feel confident and comfortable with your choice of photographer. I love to meet clients before they book, and I am always happy to show them my studio and the products that I offer.
- Hopefully, you would be supplied with a price list on that initial enquiry. Does their pricing fit your budget? Do they offer the right products for your taste? Most photographers would be able to supply you with a myriad of options for wall art, and will also be able to advise you on styles and sizes to suit your home.
I can think of no other genre of photographer that is so hands on so as a new parent you need to be absolutely confident in the skills and experience of the person you are entrusting to take images of your little one.
