As an NNEB-qualified nursery nurse, with three children of my own, I have the knowledge and experience to ensure that all my little clients are in safe hands throughout a shoot. I’ve been specialising in creating pictures of babies (from newborn to toddler), children, families and expectant mums for more than a decade, and in that time I’ve been lucky enough to work with hundreds of gorgeous little people, who all bring their own certain something to a photography session.
Whether you decide to have a studio or home session, newborn shoots are very much baby led. A relaxed environment is very important to me, which is why I will only take one newborn booking per day, to give new parents plenty of time. Calm parents make for calm newborns, which is essential for capturing their exquisite beauty. But it’s not just about getting the best portraits, of course, it’s also about making sure all my clients enjoy their time with me and have some lovely memories to cherish, as well as a lovely set of images of their little one.
Along with an emphasis on providing a relaxed, enjoyable experience for my clients, my ethos puts great importance on the quality of the images that I provide. My thinking is that quality is a lot more important than quantity; it is better to invest in a set of five gorgeous pictures to hang on the wall and enjoy than to opt for 50 images on a USB, which then never see the light of day. It’s also why I pay very careful attention to lighting, props, and poise – which is where my considerable experience and training comes in; I really pride myself on the quality of my work.
The session fee is £100 and reserves your due date in my diary, it also covers your session time, me preparing your proofs, but does not include any products or digital files.
Lifestyle shoots are entirely different, for these shoots I travel to you with my equipment and they take place in your own home. While there are more variables with this type of shoot, there are much more opportunities for unscripted tender moments and intimate poses. Images can feel more personal, when you are in your own surroundings. The best age for these un-posed more organic type of images is when your baby is 1 to 4 weeks old. These sessions are much more about the family unit as a whole.
There is no right or wrong decision, it’s simply a matter of person choice. Each type has it’s benefits, and it’s up to you to determine what scenario will be best for your family’s needs and Preferences.
Please see below, a selection of typical images from a home session.
Studio sessions include parent, baby and sibling images. But the emphasis is very much on your new baby with parent and sibling images being an addition to the shoot. At my studio I have everything to hand, including an abundance of gorgeous little props and outfits. The studio can be kept warm and cozy. Everything is set up and I’m ready when you arrive with your little one. Studio shoots give parents a chance to relax while I work my magic with your baby.
There’s no need to worry about tidying your home, most people that choose a studio shoot just love the clean look of the images that can be achieved in the studio with seamless backdrops and no clutter. The best age for these type of shoots is before your little one is under two weeks old. After this time they sleep less and the curled up poses are less likely to be achieved.
